St. Mary’s Winsted Honored with National Quality Award

The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) announced the five care centers that have earned a 2013 Gold – Excellence in Quality National Quality award, including St. Mary’s Care Center of Winsted, MN. The award is the final of three distinct awards possible through the National Quality Award program presented by AHCA/NCAL. The competitive award program highlights select facilities across the nation that serve as models of excellence in providing high-quality long term care.

“The centers that have earned a Gold National Quality Award deserve to be recognized as some of the best in the nation,” said Ed McMahon, Chair of the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers. “The staff and leadership at these centers have shown outstanding commitment and dedication to the pursuit of quality care. They are leaders in their communities and in our profession, and I congratulate them on achieving this award.”

The 2013 Gold – Excellence in Quality National Quality Award recipients are:

  • Golden LivingCenter – Tarboro; Golden Living; Tarboro, NC
  • Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center; Berkshire Healthcare; Lenox, MA
  • Life Care Center of Sarasota; Life Care Centers of America; Sarasota, FL
  • Linda Manor Extended Care Facility; Berkshire Healthcare; Leeds, MA
  • St. Mary’s Care Center; Benedictine Health System; Winsted, MN

The Gold – Excellence in Quality award is the most prestigious of the program. It requires care centers to previously achieve both the Bronze – Commitment to Quality and Silver – Achievement in Quality awards and adheres to the rigorous criteria outlined in the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The Gold award is designed to elicit best practices from recipients in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, process management and results. Since the inception of the National Quality Award program in 1996, only 18 care centers have achieved this level of quality recognition.

AHCA/NCAL previously announced the Bronze – Commitment to Quality and the Silver – Achievement in Quality recipients earlier this year. The National Quality Award program is sponsored by AHCA/NCAL Associate Business Member My InnerView, by National Research Corporation. The awards will be conferred during AHCA/NCAL’s 64th Annual Convention and Exposition, October 6-9, 2013, in Phoenix, Ariz
